It’s been a minute since I’ve posted anything. I have wanted to, but so much of what ive been going through seems so stupid. On top of that, I’ve been keeping myself busy with the two businesses and life in general.
Even now, what I was originally going to write about seems so dumb.
I’ve been spending all day working in the yard. Even now, I’m just taking a small break while trying to cool down from this end-of-summer humidity. There’s so many projects I still have to attempt to complete before winter/fall, but I doubt I’ll get them done. We shall see.
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about dating and relationships. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to date, but I’ve decided that I’m just going to keep to myself. I don’t have the patience for the women who seem to be drawn to me. I don’t feel like dealing with shady women who are just seeking attention they aren’t getting. I want more. I want a connection. I want conversation. I want someone who can meet me on my level and who enjoys my company as much as I enjoy hers. I want someone who’s willing to make time for me, as selfish as that seems to be.
Next weekend, I’m going to see Willie Nelson, his son, Lukas, Stephen Wilson Jr., Avett Brothers and a couple others. It’s been eight years since I last saw Willie and he was just getting over pneumonia. He’s 93 years old now and I can’t help but wonder how much longer he’ll be performing and how much longer we’ll be graced with his presence.
Avett Brothers is another one on my list that I’m looking forward to seeing. I’m not a huge fan, by any means, but I have enjoyed them for a number of years now. I’m really hoping they put on a great show.
For the last few weeks, I’ve been listening to Willie a lot. I’ve heard his music since I was a little kid, and only really started listening to him in the last 10 years. However, its impressive to me just how many amazing songs he’s had over the last 70 years. Like Cash, his vocals just keep getting better with age. There’s a depth that’s present in the older recordings that just isn’t there in the early years. There’s also something to the almost “fragile” and “frail” sounding nature to it. Not saying he is either of those things, because at 93, he’s still touring.
More than anything, I find myself in awe that he’s been doing what he loves for the better part of a century. It’s impressive, to say the least.
First of all, I can’t even imagine being in my 90s. The idea of another 50 years of this seems insane. I think of all he’s seen and experienced in life since 1933. The great depression, the communist inquiries of the 40s and 50s, the wars, the shady politics and the rise of corporations attempting to control the country, the death of JFK, Tricky Dick’s betrayal, and so much more. He was born in a time that saw the birth of the atom bomb, rock and roll, computers and cell phones, and now the birth of AI. It’s wild to think about. It makes me wonder what I’ll live through in the coming years.
My generation is the last to remember what life was like before computers and the internet.
At times, I’m ready to depart from this world and at other times, I find myself in awe over what I have yet to experience. I mean, I have my issues with AI, data centers, corporations, and politics. At the same time, I find myself still a little hopeful we won’t completely screw up the world. I’m intrigued to see what the future holds while I grip the memories of the past.
For all the negativity in this world, I am trying to see the good when I can. I have so much faith in the people; the regular folk who, like me, care about the world they live in and are a part of. I still feel like together, we can learn to find common ground and change the way things are done.
I still imagine a world, united, yet diverse and individually working towards the betterment of all people. I dream of a world where the greed of man is subdued and a sense of community is born among people from all walks of life, all cultures, and every country. At the end of the day, we’re all in this together. Maybe it’s just a pipe dream, but anything is possible, right?
Ultimately, I guess time will tell. However, it would be nice if people would begin to wake up and realize we have far more power than we admit. So much so, that the governments of the world are doing what they can to lock it down, quietly and slowly. If we don’t come together soon, I fear the worst. But I still find myself hopeful for a future where people unite to make the world a peaceful place, helping out our fellow humans, and working towards preserving all we can with regards to this beautiful world we live in.
